Be aware of the policy they have with relatives working in the company--this could have a negative effect. Only mention an acquaintance if you are on good and friendly terms.

I’ve heard of countless examples where applicants have falsified about knowing or listing references from people (they never met) within the company. Unless they are close friends (refrain family, unless company policy allows), and have no problem testifying to your character, don’t create complications about who you know and how vast your network extends. Because most times than not, the interviewer is judging you with a critical eye, trying to determine whether you have the technical skills, work ethic, and professionalism to fit in this company. Networking is great, but it’s not going to be the sole reason you get the job.
