I have always tried to be as open as possible with my supervisors so if I disagree I usually try to discuss it in a non-threatening way, stating where my opinion differs and where it may be alike, to see if we can agree to disagree to some extent...but have him allow me some freedom to do my job in the best manner I feel I can

If we butt heads on a issue where one opinion has to go, then I'll entrust my supervisor's decision just out of courtesy and out of the respect that they are of higher-level position. Whether it flies or crashes, it is not my place to smile and say "I told you so". I feel it would be unprofessional to handle it any other way. I think this issue would only come up if there was a distrust or lack of belief that my 'idea' would work, in which case doesn't make my 'idea' bad per say- but that there is a bigger issue of earning the trust and support of my supervisor.
