1. Melissa - August 14 2008 (Answer ID: 272)
i.e. I am seeking a position in Accounting: Administrative Assistant, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Account Manager, Bookkeeping that is demanding and challenging where my experience and skills will be used to their fullest extent. I would like to be involved with a company that has its goals set on excellence and a progressive attitude toward itself and its clients. My personal objectives are to be the best at whatever I do. To perform at the highest level that produces concise, excellent results. I am very analytically minded, problem solving is my specialty. My goals are simple; my contribution to the company would have an impact that not only benefits the company as a whole, but also those individuals that I am around. I believe this can only benefit all involved including myself. I think offering something personal is okay as long as it is brief and shows your strong points such as...I spend my free time with my family and coaching T-Ball for local children suffering with disabilities. Keep it to two minutes and practice not sounding like you have rehearsed it all night. Make sure that your statement is said with your own vocabulary and not that of someone else's. That will add to your ability to shine with confidence.
2. Shams - November 19 2008 (Answer ID: 853)
When responding to this request, you should focus on both your personal and professional values. Always be honest, but talk about your best traits only, especially those that relate to the position for which you are applying. Highlight experiences and accomplishments you are most proud of. Here's an example:
"I'm an experienced communications specialist with extensive knowledge of public information tools and techniques. I've developed comprehensive communication plans for major public events, written dozens of articles accepted by worldwide publications, and created specialized educational programs for adults and students. I am always eager to learn new methods and procedures, and have implemented continuous improvement techniques in my past positions that saved money and increased productivity. I like working with people and enjoy group projects, but am also a self-starter who doesn't mind working on my own. I'm a volunteer with the local chapter of Special Olympics and enjoy participating in community events. My goals are to complete my Master's Degree and broaden my experiences with community relations."
Remember to tailor your response to the specific job. By studying the job announcement, you'll get a good idea of the skills and experience being sought. Work those into your response.
Consider this your own personal commercial. If the interview consisted of only this ONE chance to sell yourself, what would you say?
3. Snowthunder - August 01 2008 (Answer ID: 20)
This is a standard "feel-out" question that many interviews will begin with. This is a particularly tricky question because a) more interview questions will follow suit so revealing too much information leaves for "empty" answers later on. B) Contrary to the question being asked, "telling" about oneself doesn't include anything regarding your personal life, stick to relevant facts about past work experiences, and education.
Verbal resume regurgitation is actually the underlying theme being asked. You may wonder the necessity of this question if they already have a copy of your resume. Your words look great on paper, (obviously, the reason to which you made it to the interview round) - but employees can't hire or put paper to work. You are a human, and like-wise, the employer is looking for human qualities such as confidence, ability to be clear and articulate, people/communication skills, body language, clean and professional appearance, etc. 70% of a conversation is body language, so make genuine eye contact, smiles, and professional/positive attitude. A great first impression is key!

This is a foolish question used by interviewers to throw a curve ball to the job seeker. The resume has already told them about you in a business sense so they are wasting their time and yours by asking it. Some interviewers ask it to find out about your personal life to see if there is anything going on that they don\'t like, such as maybe a divorce or how many kids you have etc. It can be used unfairly, as a weapon against a job seeker.
