I got this question once at a job interview and I answered something along these lines: “I find myself motivated by self fulfillment. I enjoy producing works that I can be proud of. For this reason, I don’t mind challenges, high pressured situations, or even a healthy amount of competition, I actually find it stimulating."

Don’t say money, even if that is the truth. You can mention more noble causes such as: wanting to get better at your job, becoming a leader in the industry, or getting recognition for your work.

My ability to work very hard and deliver targets and results efficiently and consistently.
In customer service, when I deliver exceptional service and exceed expectation and get positive feedback, that motivates me.
Also, responsibility motivates me, because if I have been given responsibility, then I want to prove that I am the right person for the job, simply because I have got a huge will to learn and even bigger determination to succeed, because I want to develop myself as much as possible and become the best I possibly can..
Finally, if I receive recognition for my efforts, then that will encourage and motivate me for my subsequent efforts
